As it’s our 2nd birthday, it seems appropriate to take stock of where we are and how far we’ve come, and the journey along the way.
Those of you who’ve read the About Us page will know that the idea behind Beeboobuzz happened many years ago after walking in to a popular high street parenting shop with my then-pregnant sister-in-law and commenting on all the pink and blue.
I thought it would be great to have a range of good quality, organic cotton basics for children in a wide range of colours and everything would be unisex. I knew it was a good concept but I had no idea where to begin, so I parked the idea in the back of my mind.
Three years ago I was looking at the prospect of returning to work after maternity leave. I knew I didn’t want to return to work full time, but my employer wouldn’t allow me to reduce my hours at all, so I made the difficult decision to resign.
Throughout this time, my mind kept returning to my idea and I’d increasingly seen the need for some bright basics and variety of colour. Since my son had been born, I’d seen lots of mums running various children’s businesses and I thought, ‘if they can do it, surely I must be able to find a way’. So I started investigating, trying to source fabric that was the right quality and a manufacturer I could work with. I won't lie, this was a lot of work!
It took many months of research, but I finally managed to get everything in place. In August 2017, a year after I’d started my research, I launched Beeboobuzz!
Initially we only sold short and long sleeve baby vests in six colours, and those of you who’ve been with me long enough will remember we sold them in packs of three - warm shades (red, orange and yellow) and cool shades (green, blue and purple)!
Feedback was good but people wanted to buy the colours individually, so after about four months, I created a new website with some fabulous photography from a friend, and a new way to buy.
A couple of months later, in spring 2018, we launched long and short sleeve kids t-shirts, which meant our age range then went up to four years to cater for toddlers and younger children. About six months after that, we added kids leggings to the range, still in our six colours - red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.
Since launch, one of the most commonly requested colours was pink! Lots of boys love pink but struggle to find pink clothes that aren’t frilly or embellished so towards the end of 2018, we added pink to our range of colours.
This year we’ve launched our fabulous unisex shorts (with pockets!) and I’m very much looking forward to adding new colours and products to our range as we continue to grow.
